Our Buying Process

How We Buy Mineral & Oil Rights

Longhorn Minerals is a mineral rights acquisition company. We underwrite your mineral interest and come up with an offer ourselves. There is no fee to you. Below is exactly how the process works, followed by what to expect.

The process, step by step

1. Free valuation

We hop on a call and discuss your minerals. We usually ask where your minerals are located, whether they are leased or not, and if they are currently producing royalties. We may ask for supporting documents such as your lease or a recent royalty check stub. We then spend a couple of days underwriting your interest at no cost, no obligation.

2. We present an offer

You get a clear offer number, with the reasoning behind it. We are always more than happy to answer any questions you may have.

3. Title & paperwork

We then draft up a formal purchase and sale agreement for your review. When signed, we start conducting title and due diligence. We cover the cost and handle all title work.

4. You get paid

Most deals close in 30–45 days. Funds are wired directly to the bank account of your choice.

What you're selling

Most owners fall into one of two buckets. The valuation is contextual to which one you're in, so we've broken each out onto its own page:

  • Selling mineral rights β€” you own the minerals under a tract, producing or not. Value tracks production, formation, royalty rate, and lease terms. We also buy lithium-related royalties in the Smackover Formation.
  • Selling oil & gas rights β€” you receive (or could receive) royalties from oil & gas production. Value tracks the check history and the decline curve of the wells.

Frequently asked

Is the process different for oil & gas rights?
The core valuation and closing steps are the same, but oil & gas royalty interests are underwritten on production and decline curves, while non-producing mineral acreage is tracked by nearby drilling and a prediction of future production.
Does it cost anything to get an offer?
No. Valuation and offers are always free, and there is never a fee to you β€” reputable buyers never ask for money up front.
